The past few weeks have been rather interesting as I have dedicated more time to studying than I have throughout the past year of IB. The process of “re-learning” topics, filling up knowledge gaps, and using what I know and understand to answer the exam questions was rather enjoyable. Contrastingly, the papers I found difficult were papers I would usually find easy. For example, Paper 3. While this paper had been my strength throughout the year leading up to mocks, it was the more challenging paper for Economics.
Furthermore, I am disappointed with the grade I have attained for Economics. Although a 4 is a pass, I usually attain 6s or 7s, 5 being my lowest grade, as Economics is one of my strongest and favorite subjects. Reflecting back to GCSEs in 2016, I had experienced a similar struggle in the subject. While I had a general understanding of the concepts and enjoyed the subject, the format and layout of the answering exam questions was an aspect I had to work rigorously to ‘perfect’. Ultimately, the consistent Cs I had achieved throughout the year culminated to an A* in the final exams. I’m not saying I hope to achieve a 7 in Economics in a snap of a finger, rather, achieving a low grade in Economics for mocks has pushed me to work harder and achieve the grades I want in the weeks leading up to finals, and in the actual exam itself.
